Daniel:
Verse by Verse

Part 12

Rexella: The ministry of angels, good and bad, could be the title given to chapter ten. We're going to begin with verse one. In the third year of Cyrus King of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar, and I want to emphasize once again, this was not the King Belshazzar, but the name given to Daniel when taken into captivity, Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision. Now which vision is this, Jack?

Dr. Van Impe: Well, it's a combination here. He's talking partially about the 70 weeks Daniel proposed in chapter 9, verse 24,

9:24 Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.
but during that 70th week a time comes when Israel is tremendously persecuted in chapter 12, verse 1,
12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
and part of the persecution comes as the forces of Egypt, Daniel 11:40,
11:40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
an Arab federation and of a King from the north, Russia, and Kings from the east China, Daniel 11:44,
11:44 But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.
move in upon Israel for the greatest bloodiest confrontation in history. And he says the time appointed is for many days, it's not now, Daniel, it's going to be in that 70th week and that is called the latter days in verse 14 of this 10th chapter
10:14 Now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days.
and it's called the time of the end in chapter 11, verse 40 and chapter 12, verse 4.
11:40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Rexella: All right. Verse 2. In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled. Now why was Daniel crying for three weeks, and he wouldn't eat, he wouldn't drink, what happened?

Dr. Van Impe: Well the angel has informed him of all that is going to happen and he gets a vision of these things, Iíve come to tell you what shall befall your people, the Jews in the latter days, verse 14 of this 10th chapter. And it's going to be a time of unprecedented judgement, for Jewish people as the nations of the world become anti-semitic and then eventually all the nations of the globe move against the Jewish people and particularly against Jerusalem, Zechariah 14:2.

14:2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.
And when he sees what's going to happen his heart is crushed.

Rexella: I can understand.

Dr. Van Impe: That's normal.

Rexella: Verse 4. And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel; then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz. Now here is a man whose face seems to be like lightning and just clothed in gold. Who is this man, Jack?

Dr. Van Impe: I believe this a Christophany. It's the appearance of Jesus Christ and the things described about him here can be found in Revelation 1, verses 14 and 15.

1:14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
1:15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
And a lot of people think that Jesus began as a baby in Bethlehem's manger, but the Bible says he is from old, from everlasting, Micah 5:2,
5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.
and that's why he is called the everlasting Father in Isaiah 9:6
9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
because he and the Father are one, John 10:30.
10:30 I and my Father are one.
Did Christ always exist? Yes. Right there in the first verse of the Bible, Genesis 1:1,
1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
in the beginning God created. And that's the term Elohim, and anything that ends in "i-m" always means a plurality and so here is the trinity worKing together in the creation of the world. Now if that seems far fetched, what are we going to with John 1:3,
1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
all things were made by him; John 1:10,
1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
he was in the world, the world was made by him; Colossians 1:16,
1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
for by Christ were all things created that are in heaven and in earth. Now this one always existed. That's why the Bible says in Proverbs 30, verse 4
30:4 Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?
what is God's name? Yahweh. And what is his son's name? Here is the son, way back then. As we said from Zechariah 9, verses 9 and 10
9:9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.
9:10 And I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim, and the horse from Jerusalem, and the battle bow shall be cut off: and he shall speak peace unto the heathen: and his dominion shall be from sea even to sea, and from the river even to the ends of the earth.
this is the one who is going to have dominion from sea to sea. So this was Christ back there coming to the aid of his servant.

Rexella: Beautiful!

Dr. Van Impe: A Christophany.

Rexella: Beautiful! Even in the Old Testament. Jack there is even more about this Christ, who appeared in the Old Testament. Verse 6. His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude. Verse 7. And I Daniel alone saw the vision: for the men that were with me saw not the vision; but a great quaKing fell upon them so that they fled to hide themselves. Therefore I was left alone and saw this great vision, and there remaineth no strength in me: for my comeliness was turned in me into corruption, and I retained no strength. Yet heard I the voice of his words: and when I heard the voice of his words, then was I in a deep sleep on my face, and my face toward the ground. Now if the men didn't see the vision, why did they flee like this?

Dr. Van Impe: Because they saw this appearance of a bolt of lightning and it was like the experience Saul of Tarsus had on the Damascus road in Acts chapter 9. There was the brightness of a light. Yes, above the brightness of the noonday sun. And great fear came on Saul and those who were with him. And they did not hear the vision but they saw the brilliancy of the messenger, Jesus Christ, and fled.

Rexella: What did Daniel mean, my appearance was turned into corruption Jack? Corruption?

Dr. Van Impe: Okay, he's talking about his appearance, his face and the Hebrew word is not corruption but disfigurement. He said the fear of what happened and the message I heard that was coming concerning my people, made my face become twisted and disfigured. That's what he meant.

Rexella: Verse 10, and behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. In other words he lifted him up. And he said unto me, o Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. Now, somebody lifted him up. Who was this?

Dr. Van Impe: Now we change the picture from the Christophany, Christ previously, to the angel. The reason we have to do that is because if this is still Christ, then Christ doesn't have much power because the prince of Persia in verse 13 who withstood the messenger, would be able to stand against Christ and would have more power than the Son of God, and this we don't believe. So the picture changes here to the angel Gabriel who is doing these things and uplifting him.

Rexella: Verses 12 and 13 Jack. Then said he unto me, fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words. Now I really like that so very, very much. You set your heart, you confess to me, and so Iím going to reveal these things to you. But the prince of the Kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the King of Persia. Now Jack, who is the "I", I am come for thy words?

Dr. Van Impe: Well again, this is Gabriel and he tells him to fear not. I know Daniel what you heard is devastating, emotionally, mentally, but don't fear. And you know when we see these things as Christians coming to pass, we're not to fear. Listen to our wonderful Saviour in John 14:1

14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
he says, let not your heart be troubled, ye believe in God believe also in me. In John 14:27,
14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you. Let not your heart be troubled. You see, God hath not given us the spirit of fear, II Timothy 1:7.
1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
It's the enemy, Satan, who brings that fear into us when we rely on the Lord the fear is not there. And if we will stick with the Lord, in prayer and in his word, we won't have that fear. Be anxious for nothing but in everything by prayer and supplications let your request be made known unto God and the peace of God, which passes all understanding shall keep your heart and your mind. Peace, no fear, Philippians 4 verses 6 and 7.
4:6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
Rexella: There is a new prince introduced here Jack, the prince of the Kingdom of Persia. Who is this?

Dr. Van Impe: All right. Many times in scripture, demonic angels, as well as, the good ones are called princes. Now this is the demonic spirit, one of the fallen angels, that controlled the ruler of Persia. And it's strange as one studies the scriptures that many of the rulers of the world are controlled by these spirits. Can I prove that? Ya. In Isaiah 14:12 to 14 we find that Satan falls because he wants to be like God. That's what Jesus said, I saw Satan, as lightning fall from heaven. Luke 10:18.

10:18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
But that was the third heaven of II Corinthians 12:2.
12:2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
Satan is still in control of heaven number 1 and heaven number 2 that's why he can approach the end of heaven number 2 and holler over as he accuses God's people, the brethren, Revelation 12:10.
12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
At this present moment the Bible says that Satan is the God of this world system, II Corinthians 4, verses 3 and 4,
4:3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
and he is the, get it, prince of this world, John 12:31.
12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
And that's why the Bible says that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, other human beings, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spirit wickedness in high places. Why? Because these fallen angels, have a title, and Satan is the head of them and he is called the prince of the power of the air. The prince of the heavens one and two and his demonic spirits fill the heavens and they control these rulers in this particular case, the demonic agent controlled the King of Persia. And that's why when Daniel was praying it took 21 days for his prayers to get through. Because the enemy of our souls is powerful. He is not all-powerful like Yahweh God but he's powerful. And so finally as we study this text we find that Gabriel isn't going to make it on his own. And he tells the prophet how Michael came to his aid so that he could get through and Michael is still there battling with these evil emissaries that fill the heavens. But there are also good angels who stand with the Lord's people. Jesus even said in Matthew 26:53,
26:53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
when they were coming to get him, and Peter was trying to stop the whole thing, stop Peter, I don't need your help. If I needed help I could presently call on my father and he would send twelve legions of angels. A legion in the Roman army was 7,000 so he said there could be 12 times 7,000 angels coming to stop this whole thing but how would the scriptures be fulfilled. And you and I, I love it, Hebrews 1:14,
1:14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
are not the angels ministering spirits sent forth to minister to us who are the heirs of salvation. And I believe like Lazarus in Luke 16:19 to 25
19 There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:
20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,
21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.
25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.
that as an angel came to get him and transport him home into the presence of the Lord, our guardian angels come after us. But that's another subject. The point here is that these evil emissaries fill the heavenlies, they are called princes, and Satan is the prince of the princes and they control evil rulers like Adolph Hitler, Joseph Stalin and many others.

Rexella: So you are saying Jack, that the good angels are here and we each have a guardian angel, the bad demonic spirits are around now too.

Dr. Van Impe: Oh, definitely! And you know we talk about a new age movement, I have a video out entitled "new age spirits from the underworld" from there they come and they flood the world and many of them are Bible teachers, that's right, they are doctrinal demons, I Timothy 4:1.

4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
To seduce, beguile people so that they loose their souls because they've listened to a false ideology not found in this word of God. Don't believe anything unless it's found here in context. I could take any verse and prove anything. But make sure it's in context. Make sure all the verses on that subject agree.

Rexella: Right. Verse 14, now I am come to make thee understand what shall befall thy people in the latter days: for yet the vision is for many days. Now basically this vision was concerning what would happen to Israel in the latter days. So Jack, what exactly is going to happen to the children of Israel?

Dr. Van Impe: Well, as we have already indicated, he said Iíve come to tell you what shall befall your people, the Jews, in the latter days. And there is going to be a horrendous persecution of Israel, Jeremiah 30, verse 7; Daniel 12, verse 1; Matthew 24:22 and Revelation 12:13.

30:7 Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.

12;1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.

24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

12:13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.

And it's all for a period of time called the latter days which translates as the time of the end in chapter 11, verse 40 and chapter 12, verse 4.
11:40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.

12;4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

And even when he explained the revived Roman Empire coming to power he said it was for the same period of time in history. So now that we have an E.C., Now that we have an Israel, now that we have the Jews controlling Jerusalem, these are all end time signs. And it starts with Daniel 2:28
2:28 But there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, and maketh known to the king Nebuchadnezzar what shall be in the latter days. Thy dream, and the visions of thy head upon thy bed, are these;
when he says, Nebuchadnezzar, there is a God in heaven that revealeth secrets, that hath sent me to tell thee, Nebuchadnezzar, what shall be in the latter days. So this is for that end time, the 70th week is almost here Rexella. And before that happens we're gone. Presto! Whipto!

Rexella: Wow! Exciting! Verse 15, and when he had spoken such words unto me, I set my face toward the ground and I became dumb, or speechless. Behold, one like the similitude of the sons of men touched my lips: then I opened my mouth, actually he was choking, he was gasping for air, and I opened my mouth, and spake, and said unto him that stood before me, o my Lord, by the vision my sorrows are turned upon me, and I have retained no strength. For how can the servant of this my Lord talk with this my Lord? For as for me, straightway there remaineth no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me. Now there are two Lords there Jack, my Lord and my Lord, how can you speak my Lord, unto my Lord. Who are those two Lords?

Dr. Van Impe: And in the preceding verse there is this same Lord and I believe it's the angel Gabriel. Now if one will look at these verses carefully, he'll notice they're small letters. If this were deity, it would be a capital "L". Since it's a small "l" in all three instances it's talking about these angelic beings. And the actual Hebrew there is, and Daniel is so moved by the visit of an angel, he says, how is it that I lowly, I don't deserve this because Iím nothing, can see my Lord, an angel and have this my Lord, that you an angel speak to me. So all he is saying is, Iím not worthy that God should send his angel Gabriel to stand in front of me and talk to me. And that's what it means out of the Hebrew text.

Rexella: Verse 18, Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me. And said, oh man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, let my Lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me. Now after such an ordeal he needed someone to come and give him some strength. He had really been through quite an ordeal Jack. Who was this that came to strengthen him, to encourage him?

Dr. Van Impe: Still Gabriel. Subjects about him, in the early part we have the Christophany when Christ appeared, then we have the change to this angel. And again this angel says fear not. You know, we could find over 400 references in this book using the terminology, fear not. We don't have to fear as Christians. I said it earlier I want to repeat it. If we just lean on the Lord there is peace. Isaiah 26:3

26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.
thou would keep him in perfect peace whose mind in stayed, is fixed on thee. You fix your mind on the Lord through reading his word through talking to him, communication with the almighty. And you'll have a peace like you never could believe would be your portion.

Rexella: Thinking about the Lord. What do you think about? Do you ever think about him, meditate on him. That's very important isn't it Jack?

Dr. Van Impe: Oh it's so important.

Rexella: Verse 20, then said he, knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? And now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come. Now when do the battles involving Greece occur Jack?

Dr. Van Impe: Okay, we know that the battle was raging right at that point of time and Michael was left behind to continue fighting this evil adversary who controlled the King of Persia so that Gabriel could come through and so that was in existence, but Grecia under Alexander was at least two centuries into the future. But there would be an evil spirit at that time because these fallen angels never die. Every demonic spirit who was here in Christ's day is still alive. Every demonic being that entered into the swine of Mark chapter 5, hundreds of them, a few thousand of them still exist and they control personalities and people. But this has a double meaning, there are double prophecies. He returns to fight the prince of Persia and Grecia will enter into a battle 200 years later. Because the demonic hosts will control him. But that's for then and 200 years latter but the double meaning is, there is coming a time when these nations will fight again. And when does Persia once again war against the Jews because he said Iíve come to tell you what shall befall your people the Jews. Verse 14, and he says I will come again another time to fight the prince of Persia. All right when Russia marches against Israel, Ezekiel 38:16,

38:16 And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.
verse 5
38:5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet:
of that chapter says that Persia is with them and that's the chest and arms of silver, the Medes and the Persians, they became the nations today called Iran and Iraq. And they are mentioned in the word of God under the label Persia but one is mentioned in a greater way in Revelation 9:14 and 15,
14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates.
15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men.
when the final judgments are coming and the Russian army is moving across to go to Israel. It all starts in this area where we had desert storm for the angel cries out, or God cries out through the angel. Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates to slay a third part of mankind. The great river Euphrates goes right there through Iraq and Syria. So, we believe that that is part of the double message. But also Greece will be involved, because when Russia has invaded Israel the E.C. Leader says this can't happen, Daniel the 11th chapter, verse 40 and 41.
11:40 And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
11:41 He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many countries shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, even Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.
He marches down with his host to try to put an end to this northern army, Russia and her allies, Egypt, the Arabs and others. And we find that at this point in time Greece is involved, the prince of Grecia. Why? Because Greece became the tenth nation in the E.C., January 1, 1981 and the entire movement is already forming their own army and one day we'll see them move in that area. So, it's for then as well as Greece being 200 years into the future but also the prophecy for 2,000 years and we've shown how the gaps occur in scripture and so no doubt about this.
