Dr. Van Impe: Rexella I値l tell you, this is an amazing statement. When he saw the Hebrew children in the fiery furnace and their hair was not singed, their clothing was not burned, there was no smell of smoke on their clothes, they came out alive and he saw the son of God, even that miracle didn't change him. It took sickness to bring him to his senses. And what a conversion experience he had. He no longer was the old Nebuchadnezzar. And that's what happens when a man gets saved. He's changed. When one is truly converted he no longer is what he used to be. Watch the grammar here. Romans 6:17, God be thanked that you were the servants of sin, now, present tense, you obeyed that form of doctrine, the Bible, that was delivered you. In I Corinthians chapter 6, verses 9 and 10 it says, know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the Kingdom of God? Be not deceived, neither fornicators, that's the sex sin between the unmarried, or idolaters, or adulterers, extra-marital flings, or the effeminant, or abusers of themselves with mankind, homosexual acts, or thieves, or covetous, or drunkards, or revilers, or extortioners, swindlers, cheaters, shall inherit the Kingdom of God, but he doesn't stop there. If he did most of us could never get to heaven, but he adds in verse 11,

6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
such were some of you, past tense, but you are washed, present tense. There's a change. Ephesians 2:1, you hath he made alive who were dead in trespasses and sins. Ephesians 2:5, even when we were dead in sins, now he hath made us alive in Christ. And then in I Timothy 1:12, Paul, talking about his conversion says, I thank Christ Jesus our Lord who hath enabled me for that he counted me faithful putting me into the ministry. What's so great about that? Who was before a blasphemer, persecutor, and injurious but I obtained mercy because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. He said I no longer am what I used to be. Did you notice when one is truly saved he no longer does what he used to do. You no longer are what you were. If you still are what you were you isn't! That's bad grammar but good theology. Thank God Nebuchadnezzar had a great conversion experience and he was changed.

Rexella: We are going on to chapter 5 now and if we could give it a title it would probably be the world's wildest party and we are going to be dealing with a new King, the grandson of Nebuchadnezzar and his name was Belshazzar. Verse 1, "Belshazzar the King made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand." Now you know before I go any farther perhaps you're wondering didn't I hear the name Belteshazzar just a few moments ago? Yes, that is the name that was given to Daniel. But this is Belshazzar, a little bit different. "Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem;" and it says his father, but it truly was his grandfather. "that the King, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein. Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the King, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them." How sad. "They drank wine, and praised the Gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone." Now there are some critics and historians who have been bold enough to say that Belshazzar never even existed and therefore the book of Daniel does not have very much credibility. How do you answer this Jack?

Dr. Van Impe: Higher critics. Ho ho. II Timothy 3:7 describes them, they are "ever learning and never able to come unto the knowledge of the truth." Was there a Belshazzar? Ferdinand Hitzack, in 1850 said there was no such person therefore the book of Daniel is a farce. Well just 4 years later in 1854, J.G. Taylor was excavating the ruins in southern Iraq and dug up some artifacts containing 60 lines of cuneiform writing and one of them stated praying for the health of Nebunitus, and his son Belshazzar. In 1924 Sidney Smith was excavating as an archaeologist and the artifact he dug up stated Nebunitis gave the Kingship to his son Belshazzar. There's the proof. You see, Nebunitis was a great military warrior and was always battling somewhere so someone had to be in control and he left it to his son. You mentioned a moment ago that Nebuchadnezzar was really the grandfather of Belshazzar, well grandfathers or fathers were always called fathers according to the custom of the Babylonians of that time so we have proven that. Now this was the wildest party ever held. Do you know that the banquet hall was a hundred seventy-six feet long by 56 feet wide. Do you know that some of their banquets totaled ten thousand guests and the biggest banquet in history was 69,800 people. And probably much of it had to take place outdoors.

But the problem was when we started this video in chapter one verses 1 and 2 we saw Nebuchadnezzar taking the holy vessels of the Jewish temple back to Babylon with him, but he committed no sacrilege with them, but this Belshazzar was berserk. He probably had too much to drink, was inebriated, and commanded that the vessels be brought into the banquet hall and get this, every one of these vessels told the story of redemption through the blood. For without shedding of blood is no remission of sins, Hebrews 9:22

9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
and even the Jews believed that it's the blood that makes an atonement for the soul, Leviticus 17:11,
17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.
so these were holy utensils. But they filled them with booze of all descriptions and everyone was hilarious, laughing, drinking, dancing, but he was going to pay for it. You know that's what liquor does to a person. No wonder, and I知 going to quote the Old Testament more because we're talking about the Old Testament and Old Testament vessels, Old Testament personalities. Proverbs 20, verse 1, wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. Proverbs 23:29, who hath woe? Who hath sorrow? Who hath contentions? Who hath babblings? Running off at the mouth, wounds without cause? Redness of eyes? Blurry, bloodshot eyes, they that tarry long at the wine. And that's why he says in verse 31,
23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
look not on the wine when it is red. Juice was called wine. He said when your wine turns red and moves, ferments, don't look at it. That's why he also said in Proverbs 23:20,
23:20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
be not among wine drinkers. Habakkuk 2:15,
2:15 Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also, that thou mayest look on their nakedness!
woe unto him that gives his neighbor drink and puts the bottle to him and makest him drunken. The judgment of God is on those who drink, get drunk and who serve it to others to get them drunk and do you believe this book? I Corinthians 6, verse 9 and 10, Galatians 5:19 to 21
6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
6:10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.

5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
5:20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
5:21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

both state no drunkard can enter the Kingdom of heaven until he repents of this sin and turns to God. They not only got drunk, but they did it in the vessels of redemption, typifying eternal salvation.

Rexella: Well remembering what happened to his grandfather you would think he would be so frightened Jack to commit this terrible sacrilege wouldn't you.

Dr. Van Impe: Yes, and Daniel could remind him what happened to his grandfather.

Rexella: I値l say.

Dr. Van Impe: He was a man, compared to the beastly thing you just did.

Rexella: All right. Verse 5, "In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the King's palace: and the King saw the part of the hand that wrote. Then the King's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another." And he truly began to shake. His knees were shaking Jack. I think he had a right to shake don't you?

Dr. Van Impe: Can you imagine a disembodied hand appears and writes a message on the wall. I think that would make anyone shake. You say whose hand was it? God's. Psalm 8:3

8:3 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
says, when I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers and so just fingers appeared on this hand and wrote this message on wall warning of judgment to come because of the debauchery just committed in the temple artifacts, utensils in honor of Yahweh, the God of heaven. And I値l tell you folks, when it says his knees smote one against another they began to knock, I was talking to the guys before the program who are in the crew and I said what is that song they used to sing dance with the dolly with the hole in her stocking and her knees kept a knockin and her toes kept a rockin. I知 going to tell you this guy's knees were knocking. But he didn't want any music. He didn't want to dance. He was pale and you would be too if a disembodied hand appeared and gave you a message.

Rexella: Oh I値l say. We'll see about that in just a moment. "The King cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the King spake and said to the wise men of Babylon, whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the Kingdom." He was really going to lift him up if they could tell them what this all meant. "then came in all the King's wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the King the interpretation thereof. Then was King Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonished. Now the queen," there we go, "now the queen, by reason of the words of the King and his lords, came into the banquet house: and the queen spake and said, o King, live for ever: let not thy thoughts trouble thee, nor let thy countenance be changed: there is a man," it's good. She had good news and good advice. "There is a man in thy Kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy Gods; and in the days of thy father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the Gods, was found in him; whom the King Nebuchadnezzar thy father, the King, I say, thy father, made master of the magicians, astrologers, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;..." She's saying you better listen to him because your grandfather really lifted him up. He had the answers. "forasmuch as an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and shewing of hard sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the King named Belteshazzar: now let Daniel be called, and he will shew the interpretation. Then was Daniel brought in before the King. And the King spake and said unto Daniel. Art thou that Daniel, which art of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the King my father brought out of Jewry? I have even heard of thee, that the spirit of the Gods is in thee, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom is found in thee." Well, they recognized Jack, here, he said that the spirit of the Gods is in thee. Well now was that the spirit of God, the Holy Spirit?

Dr. Van Impe: Well let me back up for a moment first Rexella. This queen was the queen mother, the wife of Nebuchadnezzar, and she is talking about the past father of Belshazzar because fathers and grandfathers were both called fathers who was now deceased and passed away, and we find that when he comes again this grandson recognizes that the spirits of the Gods are in him and it's really, as far as our theology is concerned, the spirit of God because it's the trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and it was in Daniel. At this point he was 83 years of age. From the time he was 15 an talked to the grandfather of Belshazzar until now, from 15 to 83 years of age he kept the power of the Holy Spirit upon him and there is only one way that anyone can do that and that's through this precious book. You are nothing, you can be nothing spiritually without God's word. Some people talk about oh how the Holy Spirit fills and controls them and they never read the Bible. I don't accept that. This is what makes you what you ought to be. We are to grow in grace and in the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, II Peter 3:18.

3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
How? As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, God's word, that you may grow thereby, I Peter 2:2.
2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:
Everything that we are good spiritually comes through the Holy Spirit's production, the book he wrote, and that's why Psalm 119:11 says, thy word have I hidden in my heart that I might not sin against thee. And Jesus said in John 15:3,
15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
you are clean through the word and why John 17:17
17:17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
says, sanctify them through thy truth. What's the truth? Thy word is truth. And you can't have anything, even faith, without the word, for faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God, Romans 10:17.
10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Daniel lived in the word, Daniel lived on his knees and when one lives in this book and lives on his knees he will be a spirit-filled being from his teens until God calls him home. And Daniel knew the secret. If all of us did, what a difference Christianity would be on this earth.

Rexella: The blessed Holy Spirit. Verse 15, "and now the wise men, the astrologers, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known unto me the interpretation thereof: but they could not shew the interpretation of the thing: and I have heard of thee, that thou canst make interpretations, and dissolve doubts: now if thou canst read the writing, and make known to me the interpretation thereof, thou shalt be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about thy neck, and shalt be the third ruler in the Kingdom. Then Daniel answered and said before the King, let thy gifts be to thyself, and give thy rewards to another; yet I will read the writing unto the King, and make known to him the interpretation." I really admire Daniel. He just wasn't interested in a reward. He was just interested in doing what was right.

Dr. Van Impe: Material things didn't matter to him. And you know we have employed so many people in our ministry for the last 25, 30 years and so many today who serve God whether it's here at this ministry, another ministry in churches as pastors, have the spirit of give me, give me. How much am I going to get out of this? And they are living for the here and now and not for eternity. That's not the way of Jesus Christ. Hebrews 13:5

13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
says let your conversation, your lifestyle, be without covetousness, concern for material things, greedy and graspy, and be content with such things as you have. That spirit does not pervade Christendom at this hour. And you know, if one were to take a concordance and look up the word adultery, fornication, licentiousness, everything having to do with sexual impurity, and then look up covetousness, they run neck and neck. God hates the sin of loving materialism, loving money, loving things, as much as he hates the sin of immorality. And that's why Ephesians 5:5 through 8
5 For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
7 Be not ye therefore partakers with them.
8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light:
speaks about it. It says, for this ye know that no whoremonger or unclean person or covetous man, who is an idolater, he makes the buck his God, has any inheritance in the Kingdom of Christ and of God and Daniel learned the lesson to be content with such things as you have.
